Thomas Cranmer

Living in the Church in Divisive Times II

If you look back at the English Reformation you will find that Thomas Cranmer and the other drafters of the Articles of Religion adopted it as a founding principle that: “the church of Jerusalem, Alexandria, and Antioch hath erred:  so also the Church of Rome hath erred, not only in their living and manner of Ceremonies, but also in matters of faith.” The unstated conclusion that one can draw from that article is the Anglican Church also errs.

This is the second of Bob Prichard‘s talks on the subject of living in an unfaithful church, delivered at the clergy conference in the Diocese of Pittsburgh in 2003. In it Bob examines our expectations of Anglicanism in the light of its history. It can be read here.

The third talk in the series will be posted in about a week.
